CHURCH HILL – Homer Charles Skelton, 80, of 220 Fern Street, passed away Tuesday (June 11, 2002) at Church Hill Health Care and Rehab Center following an extended illness.
Mr. Skelton was a life long resident of Church Hill and was a member and former deacon of the First Free Will Baptist Church of Church Hill. He was a former employee of Tennessee Eastman and operated Skelton’s Motel and Greenland Park for many years before his retirement. Mr. Skelton was a veteran of the US Army, World War II and was a POW. He was a member of Church Hill VFW Post # 9754 and a member of East Tennessee Ex-POW Chapter.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Ethel Bailey Skelton, one sister, Myrtle Arnold.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Dorothy Christian Skelton, Church Hill; three sons and daughters-in-law. Sherrell & Karen Skelton, Rick Skelton and Vim and Debbie Skelton, all of Church Hill; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Delmas and Bobbie Skelton, Ron & Renee Skelton, all of Church Hill; Eddie and Jean Skelton, Kingsport; two sisters, Fannie Arnold, Knoxville; Wanda Head, Church Hill; several nieces and nephews, special friend and devoted caregiver, Margaret Wheatley.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Johnson Funeral Home and anytime at the residence.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Bud Beverly officiating.
Graveside services with military honors conducted by Hawkins County Color Guard will be Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Church Hill Memory Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Roger Bailey, Tim Simpson, Jimmy Arnold, Ralph Blair, Gene Bradshaw, Ron Skelton, Jr., Timmy Simpson, Johnny Skelton, Dale Hannah, Dick Wallace and Greg Skelton.
The family request those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Church Hill Health Care Activity Fund (Bird Aviary).
