GATE CITY, Va. – Myrtle Jennings Harris, 86, of the Bristol Highway, went to be with the Lord late Monday (Aug. 20, 2007) while at the Sunbridge Hillside Manor after an illness.
She was born Feb.15, 1921 and was the daughter of the late Everett and Mazy Kerns Jennings. She was a wonderful, loving and caring mother and grandmother and will be deeply missed.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Larlin N. Harris; infant son, Ralph Harris, son, Hubert L. Harris (2006) and daughter, Charlotte Smith (2006)· brother, E.C. Jennings; son-in-law, Claude ”Sonny”‘ Smith and several other brothers and sisters.
Survivors include a daughter, Nancy C. Harris and fiancee, Pete Sanders of Gate City, Va.; daughter-in- law, Verna Harris of Gate City, Va.; grandchildren, Vickie Lane and husband, Phillip, Brian Harris and wife, Christy, Faith Dean and husband, Clifford, Missy Meade and husband, Justin; great-grandchildren, Kaitlan Lane, Hunter Lane, Kailee Harris and Morgan Harris; one sister, Margaret Fletcher of Kingsport; sister-in-law, Virgie Hobbs also of Kingsport.
Calling hours will be Wednesday from 6 to 7 p.m. at Scott County Funeral Home and other times at the home of Missy Meade, 1099 Big Moccasin Road in the Nickelsville area. The funeral will follow at 7 p.m. in the funeral chapel with Rev. Bob R. Lane officiating. Burial will be Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Holston View Cemetery. Those wishing to attend should meet at the funeral home by 10:20 a.m. Thursday to go in procession to the cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Brian Harris, Phillip Lane, Justin Meade, Clifford Dean, Ronald Gillenwater, Donald Gillenwater and Hunter Lane.
