Gate City – Edith Gardner, 86, of Gate City (Hiltons community), went to be with the Lord on Friday, August 10, 2018 at Holston Valley Medical Center. She was born in Hiltons, VA on July 29, 1932. Edith was retired from the Kingsport Press and attended Hilton Missionary Baptist Church. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Millard Fillmore Gardner; her son, Daryl Gardner; parents, Clarence and Lola McMurray Bright; sister, Louise McCracken; brothers, Jack and Billy Bright.
Edith is survived by her daughter, Patricia McNutt and husband Doug; son, Stan Gardner and wife Pam grandchildren, Kristi Bailey (Todd), Chad McNutt (Candy), Kade Gardner, Wesley Gardner and Logan Gardner; great-grandchildren, Zak, Ethan, Kara and Brody; daughter-in-law, Hope Gardner; sisters, Debbie Sampson (David) and Verna Harris; brother, Allen Bright; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 1-3 p.m. Sunday, August 12, 2018 at Scott County Funeral Home in Weber City, VA.
A funeral service will follow at 3 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Rex McMurray and Pastor Pat McArthur officiating.
Burial will follow in Holston View Cemetery. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
